The Hero-KingAbove all, this is my proudest piece so far. Taking over 9 hours to complete, The Hero-King claims the title as the most time consuming piece I have ever created.
After browsing Tumblr in hopes of discovering something to help me break free from the clutches of art block, I came across a photo of Harry Styles, decorated by heavily contrasted and dramatic lighting. Upon finding this image, I was inspired to create my own piece that played with heavy lighting such as that photo. Marth, being one of my favorite video game characters of all time, was an obvious choice for me: I have always enjoyed drawing him and interpreting him in various fashions. |

The Process
Rough DraftMy rough drafts are when I first spill my ideas onto the page. By doing this, I can come up with a rough outline and composition of the piece, which is also useful for sending to my clients before beginning the heavy detailed work.
|
LineartIn this stage, I meticulously and precisely lay down the line work for my composition. This part is crucial as it sets the foundation for the final draft of the piece. Doing the lineart usually takes the longest amount of time to complete out of any other part of a piece.
|
Final DraftThis is the final stage of the composition. I first lay down the flat colors inside the lineart and work my way into shading and creating detail from there. Once that is completed, I move on to recolor the lineart, create more lines, and play with the colors and ambience of the overall composition.
